Kirkwood Ski Resort is known for its extreme and backcountry terrain. Skull & crossbones warn skiers and riders to beware of the double blacks. Cliffs, chutes, and steeps abound. Expedition Kirkwood is an excellent way to get schooled in the backcountry. Beginners and intermediates needn't shy away from Kirkwood though. Using Timber Creek Day Lodge as a base, there's plenty of secluded, mild terrain. Kirkwood has been tagged, "Rare Earth", and it is. Special, unique, and incredibly beautiful, on slope and off, there's plenty to do. Grab a dog sled tour, jump on a tube, or explore the region in a snow cat tour. Rare indeed. If you're staying in South Lake Tahoe, a 25-35 minute drive, you'll find a wide range of vacation rentals to choose from, as well as Tahoe Hotels that vary from full service casino resorts, to intimate Inns and Bed and Breakfasts. South Tahoe is of course famous for its casino gaming and incredible nightlife, so before your trip be sure to check out the Lake Tahoe Events calendar.
